Mowers won by 29 last night winning five of the six hands played, being 21 up half way. Steve James with 56 and Vince Milton with 55 were top of the shots for Mowers
Home Guard 2’s top scorers were Kevin Crout with 61 (including an 18 flopper) and David Derrick with 51; the Friday champions were always behind the eight ball so to speak as spare chances were missed and too many 4s, 5s and 6s were also served up.
Mowers are worthy overall League champions for 2015-2016.
Both teams say thanks to Alan Troake for sticking up, Chris Bullock (Bodmin) for marking the board and to Carl Wood (Landlord, Victoria Arms) for staging the game. The trophy winners this year are: -

Steve Trevelyan of Mowers retained his title he won last year and now joins an elite club of 4 time winners along side Rob Higgs and John Lane.
Steve has dedicated his win to his late team mate Shaun Harcombe who was a very close friend.
It wasn't a night of numerous spares with only 5 in the 6 hands played by the 8 finalists, although first man on Rob Gill started with a 15 spare and seventh man Glen Escott got a 13 in his first hand. No more spares were had until the 5th hand by the eighth player Shaun Vile who got a flopper with his first ball and converted into an 18. Going into the last hand all players had a chance to go through first man Rob Gill got a 7 making 51, Paul Robinson followed with a 6 for his lowest home alley score of the season just 41. Third man on was Shane Powell who needed a spare to stand a chance of going through, he got one but his spare ball went straight through to leave him on 48 .Reigning champion Steve Trevelyan "Mr. Consistent" finished with an 8 and a total of 50 with no spare (9,9,9,6,9,8), next was Peter Chamberlain who had a 7 for a final total of 40. Mick Drohan stood at the plate knowing he needed a spare to progress which he duly got a magnificent 17 for a 57 total. Glen Escott needed 8 to go through but suffered as many had before of pins just "chopping out" and only getting 6 for a total of 49. Last man Shaun Vile only needed 6 but got 8 to go into the last 4. So through to the last 4 were 2 Division A and 2 Division B players, Mick Drohan (Wardens) Shaun Vile (Cottage Pies) Rob Gill and Steve Trevelyan of Mowers
In the next set of 6 hands played by the top 4 players it was nip and tuck through out the hands with Steve Trevelyan again showing how to skittle and use every ball with a 9,9,9,7,5,11 for 50 and along side Shaun Vile who again came up with a big spare to resurrect his hand (6,8,6,8,7,16) to finish on 51 go through to the final. The other two players were very close at the heels of the finalists with Rob Gill finishing on 49 and Mick Drohan on 48 and played their part in making it a very pressurised and thrilling match.
In the final Steve got spares in his 2nd and 3rd hands to make a very credible 52 (7,11,14,7,6,7) Shaun could not find another big spare so his hand of 41(7.8,5,7,7,7,) left him 11 pins sort.
It was a very sporting happy evening which concluded with a very nice buffet prepared by the Cottage Inn landlady Connie the whole evening epitomised what the Ex-Services Skittles League is all about.
Below is a transcript of a letter received from Becky Halley Senior Sister Dunkery Stroke Unit
Thank you for the very generous and kind donation of £800 collected in memory of the late Mr Jim Blackmore by the Wellington ex-services skittle league . The money will be much appreciated by all the Dunkery team and will be used towards purchasing equipment that would be of benefit to all future stroke patients.
I am sure we can organised some of the team to come to the awards evening at the football club in Wellington and accept the cheque on the evening of the 10th of June 2016 .
I will add the date to my diary , should there be any change in the details I would be grateful if you could let me know.

I expect most of you will be aware that Royals of Division A have reluctantly had to withdraw from the league following the closure of the Kings Arms. The Executive Committee met on Monday (11th January) and discussed at length the effects of this withdrawal. The Committee unanimously decided that the only fair way forward is for all of Royals' results to be expunged and the adjusted table will operate from this week (20). It will also be on the website this weekend and will appear in the Wellington Weekly News next week. Royals had incurred a delayed back-match fine (under rule 3) but this has been paid in full and so all ex-Royals players are now clear to play for another side except in the three remaining cup matches.
I am sure no one will put their card/money through the Green Dragon letterbox but !!!!...................................
Just a reminder result cards have to be handed in by 1.00pm Saturday either at Teares newsagents South Street or to Kevin Allen's (Secretary) house 13 Walkers Gate.
